Julia Louis-Dreyfus brings home her sixth Emmy®. The evening is record-breaking Emmys® for Louis-Dreyfus.
Receiving this Emmy breaks Candice Bergen’s record for most Emmys® won for a single role. She is now tied with Cloris Leachman with a lifetime eight Emmys®. Louis-Dreyfus is holding the record for the most wins in the lead actress category with seven overall.
Louis-Dreyfus thrilled as she accepted the award. In her acceptance speech, she says, “This is and continues to be the role of a lifetime and an adventure of utter joy.” She plays Selina Meyer, Vice President of United States on Veep. She says, “[html]We did have a whole storyline about an impeachment but we abandoned that because we worried that someone else might get to it first.” This upcoming season is the last for Veep.
Nominees in this category include Pamela Adlon (Better Things), Jane Fonda (Grace and Frankie), Allison Janney (Mom), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish), and Lily Tomlin (Grace and Frankie).
Congrats Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
