House of Gucci is for love. The love of what is left to the audience to determine. Was the love of money the downfall or the loss of true love that destroyed Patrizia Reggiani?
House of Gucci Synopsis
The film has so ingredients from Oscar nominated actors, to the Gucci history of fashion and power, and love; lovers, family, and money .
Ridley Scott’s, director of House of Gucci, is a thrilling exploration of three decades in the tangled history of the multi-generational Gucci family, a tale of ambition, greed, betrayal and murder. The film shows Scott’s energy, multi-camera use, and spontaneity.
House of Gucci
You are drawn in to Patrizia, played by Lady Gaga, power, determination, and strength. A woman who goes with her heart and falls deeply in love with Maurizio, played by Adam Driver. The moment the two meet at the party Maurizio introduces himself to Patrizia there is just a moment where you catch glimpse that Patrizia is very familiar with the name Gucci. As the story continues this moment leave one wondering did she really fall in love with him or the money.
The fashion is endless and timeless. The wealth and power of this family is felt represented in the film. The ability to create the sweet dream of Gucci while telling the story of murder. The story of loss and change.
Patrizia slowly losses. Gaga states at the London Premiere, “You watch the unraveling of a woman that only women can understand in a way when it comes to her.” The unraveling takes the power and strength Patrizia has away. The characteristics that Maurizio fell in love with.
As time goes by Patrizia is left abandoned and no longer matter, she begins unraveling. This appears to be that she has lost the love of her life, but then the moment when they meet I ask myself is it the money and power she losses in the end of her marriage that drives her to murder?
Maurizio changes from the man who knows the evils of luxury and wealth, the man who wanted to get away from the family business to be more himself to one craving and embracing the wealth. He falls in love twice in the film but still seems to be lost in himself.
Patrizia states in the film, “I am not a particularly ethical person but I am fair.” Did she love Maurizio or the Gucci money and power? I am still left wondering myself if she truly found the love of her life or the money of her dreams.

Hannes Holm A Man Called Ove Foreign Language Film Oscars
Foreign Film A Man Called Ove
A Man Called Ove brings the sense of losing a lifelong partner to reality. This may be something many will experience in their lifetime, but not understand until that time. Hannes Holm, The Director, talks about taking a novel to the film he says, “He felt like a thief taking the book story to film. The version is his not the author’s version of the book. Frederick Morheden, the novelist, told him yes!”
The story is of a husband losing his wife. The struggle with disorder and absence of her presence he becomes desperate with the struggle. He turns to enforcing association rules and gives up on life. He develops a most unlikely relationship.
Holm’s discussed the film with us after the symposium. He feels that each time the movie is different. He believes that he is only fifty percent of a film. The audience is the other fifty percent. Holms is htrilled to be theatre where some of the world’s greatest films are screened.

Academy Governor Mark Johnson with directors of the Oscar® nominated foreign film “Tanna,” Bentley Dean and Martin Butler
Foreign Film Tanna
Tanna, a South Pacific island, is a story about the Yakel Tribe. The love interest of Wawa may change the tribe’s world for generations to come. The film is cast by the tribe leaders. Its presentation is in their native language. Martin Butler and Bentley Dean, film directors, state, “This was a collaboration film.” JJ acted as the language and cultural interpreter for the film.
The film did present many hurdles. The island has no electricity. The filming and editing with solar power. Casting was done by tribal leaders. They did have a few issues the almost imploded the film. The tribe members had never seen a film. The crew created a natural warm. the environment for a cast that did not even have a sense of filmmaking to be comfortable and present their best acting. They filmed a lot to ensure a good presence. The story had no written script. The story is a collaborated dialog based on each day shooting best. There were no rehearsals.
The world primer was with tribe. The chief said, “This is our Movie.” This film’s awards also include: Awards: AACTA Award for Best Original Music Score, Special Mention for Feature-length Fiction Film Nominations: AACTA Award for Best Direction. You can view the film on Amazon.

Foreign Film Toni Erdmannthe
Toni Erdmannthe, a film about a jokester father and his very busy CEO daughter. He hires someone to play his daughter. He wonders who is going to pay that bill.
The film has received criticism regarding the length. Director, Maren Ade,states, “Took notes after premiere and was afraid to make those changes. She stewed a few days but left it.” The comedy is character driven. The play with the dentures developed from a set that was a gift while the director was a waitress.
Foreign Film The Salesman
The Salesmanis about a couple begins performing Death of A Salesman their relationship begins to change. Asghar Farhadi, from Iran, was not in attendance at the symposium. He made a choice to stay away after the recent ban by the US President put in place a travel ban. He did send a message that he was honored to be nominated and had a lot of respect for the Academy. All directors present signed a letter in solidarity with Farhadi.
We had the honor of meeting actor Brian Avery after the event. He is thrilled for Oscars week. He found the films to be inspirational in talent and film. You can learn more about Avery’s acting career here.

Amanda Marsh, the wife to firefighter Eric Marsh, joined the cast and crew this evening. She has made her message strong and proud in honor of the husband she lost. She has taken her pain and turned it to helping others. She created the Eric Marsh Foundation for Wildland Firefighters. This foundation provides assistance with, “heartbreak at its deepest level, and we have the ability and resources to help others dealing with the same loss and trauma” (Eric Marsh Foundation Website). This year our country is experiencing a loss of over 2 million acres due to wildland fires. This film brings forward the battle and struggles these families and firefighters face to protect our homes, families, and wildlands.
Tonight the premiere brought Hollywood actors to the Phoenix red carpet. They came to honor these men and to bring awareness to the struggles living their live fighting fires. Josh Brolin, his character is Eric Marsh in the film, in a behind the scenes clip states, “there should be a moment when the audience is educated on how tough it is to be a wildland firefighter.” The firefighters live in the most rugged conditions for weeks. They carry 40-50 lbs packs with their water, meals ready to eat, sleeping gear, and shower infrequently.
Miles Teller, his character is Donut in the film, says, “These guys go all over the country for two weeks at a time. They go home for two days to return for two more weeks. They do this for six to eight months each year. They work their butts off.” The sacrifice these firefighters and their families make to protect our livelihoods.
Joseph Kosinski, film’s director, wanted to bring the vision to this film “that you do not need to carry a gun to be a hero. What firefighters do. That it is a war a war against mother nature. It felt grounded and real,” he states behind the scenes. This film brings this story to the scene. Eric Marsh brought this municipal firehouse to a Type 1 Crew hotshots.
Filming was in Santa Fé New Mexico for most of the film. The Yarnell part filmed last. James Dale Badge stated this evening, “We filmed Yarnell last. At that moment we had to trust that it was in us as actors. This is our job.” The film’s song, Hold the Light, is by Dierks Bentley, who grew up in Phoenix. The sacrifice made by many to protect our wildlands, communities, and livelihood presents in this film. This film opens in theaters October 20, 2017. Check your local listing for times and tickets.
