One year ago she was working the challenges on America’s Next Top Models (ANTM). She’s dream was to appear on ANTM and work the runway. There was a height requirement in seasons past. She was just a little shy of the need for the last season. Tyra Banks saw something in the 5’5″ model.
Ava Capra
Capra works hard and focuses on the challenges on ANTM. She has a major look change and takes it in stride because this is her dream. She gains a following that loves seeing this young model make her dream come true. This experience is a fabulous opportunity for her. It is heartbreaking for viewers when her time ended too soon on ANTM.
She continues to focus on her goal of modeling and makes it very successful. She says, “I turned to my faith, family, and good friends to pick myself up. I learned a lot about myself and modeling. I knew this was my dream and I love the work.”
Capra has done just that. She graces the runways, the cover of magazines, red carpets and more. She commands the runway as if she is taller than life. Her runway shows have included Art Hearts Fashion Week, Metropolitan Fashion Week, LA Swim Week, and more. She is often called the flower Child Virgin and her flower brand, “Bloom by Ava.”

Chimowitz found a great couture fashion show in the Warwick Paris Hotel. This event was beautiful fashion and people. A celebration of love to the art of design, fabric, and fashion.
The runways continue to bring the top fashion styles for autumn winter 2018. Balmain, also known as Balmain’s Army, takes the sheer look to the next level. Olivier Rousteing, Artistic Director, young and intuitive brings sexiness and sleekness to the forefront with sheer pants, blouses, and coats. He brings honor to the founder, Pierre Balmain, he brings the tradition to a real true modern futuristic level. Rousteing is in tune with the younger generation and aware of the power social media plays in today’s world (he has a following of 4.7 million on Instagram).
Issey Miyake brings texture and dimension to the collection perfectly layered for any autumn winter weather. This collection is innovation, creativity, and new fabrics. The texture uses various uses of feathers, furs, folds, and stitching. The use of new fabrics is really creative. He uses folds and manipulating the fabrics to add volume to the styling of each look. Yoshiyuki Miyamae, Creative Director, stays true to his reputation with this collection. The collection is full of textures creating a winter full of energy and texture.
Yohji Yamamoto’s collection is to a long time friend, Azzedine Alaïa, he passed on in November 2017. Alaïa was an independent couture designer, one of the top designers of the 20th and 21st century. The collection brings both designers together with the strong presence of black (a signature color for both designers). The styling brings a fine the line of life and death. The clothing presents a definition of strong powerful lines with the abstract use of the cuts, exceptional tailoring, and fabrics. The end results you can question if this Paris collection brought Yamamoto a great sense of his lifelong friend’s presence and love even after death.

Calvin Klein’s chief creative officer, Raf Simons, brings the past and the future together for autumn winter 2018. Simons presents a runway reminiscent of a 19th-century farm with futuristic clothing at the New York Stock Exchange.

The runway presents to take the audience a back to a time when winters were harsh and required survivability. The fashion brings a strong sense of winter and cold. The sweaters are an upgrade from the big loose sweaters to a more tight-fitting look.

The menswear in the collection has the stylish dual squared button-secured front pockets and larger collars. There is a strong layering continuing with turtlenecks and several coats on some of the models.

The coats for the collection come from the firefighter coats they wear when fighting a fire. They are longer to cover more during the long cold winter days. The accessories include stocking ski caps that are hand-woven cover the head, ears, and some of the face. Gloves are a nice addition. They cover mid-forearm for continued protection from the winter winds. The runway, covered with popcorn, adds to the sense of a fluffy winter wonderland.
The womenswear runway collection brings a strong futuristic feel to the 19th-century clothing. Taking the older cuts and fabrics bringing them to the modern world. A favorite women’s piece is one where the older collar cut and the fabric made into a sexy pantsuit.

Simons, a Belgian fashion designer, continues to change the look and feel of Calvin Klein. His shows continue to be the talk of the town and a big influence. He takes bold statements and stories creating a collection that is a strong runway. He is challenging fashion in new ways. He states, “I don’t want to show clothes, I want to show my attitude, my past, present, and future. I use memories and future visions and try to place them in today’s world.” He has accomplished that with this autumn winter 2018 collection.
Rocky Gathercole brings the house of cards down the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) runway. Gathercole presents his latest collection at Art Hearts Fashion Week. This collection is a deck of cards that includes thirteen ranks of each of the four French suits.

Gathercole is a designer who as a teenager could not get a job as a janitor but he focused and achieved his dream of fashion. His designs now dress the top celebrities in Hollywood. His creation worn by Katy Perry, Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Thalia, CeeLo Green, and more. Gathercole states, “I was a kid back then trying to make it through this harsh world, and a much harsher fashion scene. But with the help of the Almighty, a mentor and of course, much hard work, I finally made it. I’m a fashion rebel which just mirrors my personality. ” His runways always come with intense design and beauty.

The queen of hearts is the most impressive piece in the collection. She is dressed head to toe in red. The crown is bedazzled with red stones. The gown is for exceptional for any fiery and fierce queen.

The 90th Oscars® nominees gathered for a reinventing celebration and class photo at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. The atmosphere for The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences® is one of fun, celebration, connecting, and making new friends.

The beautiful ballroom at the Hilton is an exceptional location for this day. The best-celebrated nominee was Agnes Varda. She was not in attendance, but J.R. nominated for Faces Placescarried around a cutout of his co-nominee. The cutout was placed in the class photo between Meryl Streep and Greta Gerwig. The top to nominees includes 21 nominations for Streep and 17 nominations for Steven Spielberg. Congrats to Rachel Morrison (Mudbound), the first female nominee for cinematography. Netflix continues to bring a change to the world of entertainment. This year the streaming network celebrates 8 nominations.

The fashion for the afternoon affair is more casual with suits and dresses. The event is the one that brings the entertainment industry together for a nice casual celebration of the top in film for the year.

The 90th Oscars®, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
1 mango, diced
1/4 purple onion, diced
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
1/2 cup tomatoes, chopped
1 Jalapeño, finely chopped and deveined
Juice from 2 limes
Pink Himalayan Salt, to taste
4 4.0 oz Sea Base filets
1 1/2 tablespoon extra-virgin or coconut oil
salt, to taste
1 sprig of fresh thyme
1 cup dried quinoa
2 cups water
1 mango, diced
1/4 purple onion, diced
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
1/2 cup tomatoes, chopped
1 Jalapeño, finely chopped and deveined
Juice from 2 limes
Pink Himalayan Salt, to taste
4 4.0 oz Sea Base filets
1 1/2 tablespoon extra-virgin or coconut oil
salt, to taste
1 sprig of fresh thyme
1 cup dried quinoa
2 cups water
What You’ll Need To Know
Combine 1 cup quinoa with 2 cups water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer until quinoa is tender, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and let is sit for 5 minutes. After it has cooked and rested, use a fork to fluff and separate the grains.
Season the sea bass with salt and pepper.
In a large saute pan over medium heat, add the coconut oil and heat the oil to a slight smoke. Add 1 sprig of fresh thyme to the saute pan and sear the sea bass skin side down for 3/4 of the cooking time about 7 minutes. This will give the fish a nice crisp skin and golden color. Carefully turn the fish over, to finish the other side. Remove the sea bass and hold in a warm place.
In a mixing bowl, add the diced mango, purple onion, cilantro, tomatoes, jalapeño, lime juice and salt and mix together.
Plate your ingredients with 1/2 cup cooked quinoa, sea bass and mango salsa on top (roughly, 1/4 cup.)

The night continued with honoring top film and television for 2017. Kristen Bell hosted the night and took the time to roast the all-female presenters. The ceremony continued the theme with speeches including Oprah’s acceptance of the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. She offers encouragement for the future by stating, ” it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me too’ again.” Oprah brought many to tears with her speech supporting the night’s voice against sexual harassment.

Chrissy Metz‘s stylist, Penny Lovell, continued the solidarity look for her with a velvet custom designed off the shoulder wrap clutched with a gorgeous crystal hand-beaded brooch. Accessorizing with Stuart Weitzman shoes, a Jimmy Choo clutch, and jewels from Hueb and Le Vian. The look complete with the powerful pin supporting against sexual harassment.

This year Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show had many moments to cherish and a few to anguish over. The runway filmed last week in Shanghai China and aired on CBS a week later filled with the latest lingerie creations by Olivier Rousteing, creative director and collaboration of Balmain. He took a hard edge in some of the fashion while others were goddess feeling.

The evening filled with beauty, entertainment, and sexy fashion. The styling was very similar throughout the collections. Soft waves, light makeup for a very feminine feel. The looks included:

This year’s fantasy bra was feminine and elegant. It is included in the Champagne Nights collection. It took almost 350 hours to create and embellished with nearly 6,000 precious gemstones.(Victoria’s Secret)” The bra creation is by world-renowned jeweler Mouawad. This 2 million dollar bra is handset with diamonds, yellow sapphires, and blue topaz worn by Lais Ribeiro for the famous runway.
The models walked the runway serenaded Harry Styles, Miguel, Jane Zhang, Leslie Odom Jr. and Yundi Li. The performance list was missing Katy Perry who had Visa issues.
Gigi Hadid, Victoria’s Secret model was not on the runway due to Visa issues as well. Alessandra Ambrosio closes out the runway and it is very fitting as this is her last runway show with Victoria’s Secret angels.
Ming Xi in her Hometown
This year’s runway did have a slip and fall that did air on CBS during the show. Ming Xi, came down the runway waving her hands in the air, encouraging the audience to get louder. She is happy to walk in front of her family and hometown crowd. Her heel caught in her skirt, and she fell to the ground. Xi gathered her gigantic flowered costume and tried to recover, Brazilian model Gizele Oliveira assisted with getting her back on her feet. Xi gracefully completed the runway and pose.
