MTV Red Carpet

Think pink and red for the colors on the red carpet this evening. Men sporting the color with their suit choices for the evening. Women bring the couture to pantsuits to the red carpet for a glamorous evening. It is a great red carpet with the ability to be more casual.

Lakeith Stanfield looks fantastic in his jacquard suit red suit. He and Tessa Thompson brought the matching co-host to the red carpet. Percy Romeo Miller Jr. looks dapper in his Saint Laurent pink suit. Zendaya brings chocolate to the red carpet. She looks like a caramel filled Hershey’s kiss and pulls it off well. Hostess Tiffany Haddish has fun with her dress on the red carpet. Reminds me of the Easter and you would get that fun frilly dress and want to play and twirl.

MTV Show

Haddish, the first black woman to host the evening, she took a moment to discuss Kim Kardashian’s hair and how that show is a “Star Wars” franchise. The recipients took time to bring the audience to their messages.

  • Chad Boseman presents his Best Hero statue to James Shaw Jr. a real-life hero that stopped the Waffle House Shooting in Tennessee.
  • Lady Gaga apologizes to the audience after receiving Best Music Documentary for Five Foot Two, she recently found out she is 5’ 3 ¾”
  • Chris Pratt provides us with his nine rules
    • “Breathe. If you don’t you’ll suffocate.”
    • “You have a soul. Be careful with it.”
    • “Don’t be a turd. If you’re strong, be a protector. And if you’re smart be a humble influencer. Strength and intelligence can be weapons. And do not wield them against the weak. That makes you a bully. Be bigger than that.”
    • “When giving a dog medicine, put the medicine in a little piece of hamburger. They won’t even know they’re eating medicine.”
    • “Doesn’t matter what it is, earn it. A good deed. Reach out to someone in pain. Be of service. It feels good and it’s good for your soul.
    • “God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that. I do.”
    • “If you have to poop at a party, but you’re embarrassed because you’re going to stink up the bathroom, just do what I do. Lock the door. Sit down. Get all the pee out first, okay? And then once all the pee’s done, poop. Flush. Boom. You minimize the amount of time that the poop is touching the air. ‘Cause if you poop first, it takes you longer to pee. Then you’re peeing on top. It’s stirring it up. The poop particles create a cloud. It goes out and then everyone in the party will know that you pooped. Just trust me. It’s science.”
    • “Learn to pray. It’s easy and it’s so good for your soul.”
    • “Nobody is perfect. People are going to tell you, you’re perfect just the way you are. You’re not. You are imperfect. You always will be. But there is a powerful force that designed you that way. And it loves you. And if you’re willing to accept that, you will have grace. And grace is a gift. And like the freedom that we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for with somebody else’s blood, do not forget it. Don’t take it for granted.”
  • Millie Bobby Brown, Best Performance in a Show, recently suffered a knee injury and was not able to attend, had a wonderful video about being nice.
    • She says, “Since I know there are many young people watching this, and even to the adults, too — they could probably use the reminder — I was taught, if you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it,”
    • She continues, “There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it and neither should any of you. If you need a reminder of how well you are and to rise above the hate, message me on Instagram.” This is something she is experiencing on social media herself.
  • Keiynan Lonsdale, Best Kiss in a Show had the best line of the evening “Kiss the one that you love no matter what gender they are”

The theme for the evening was one that brought creativity and exceptional fashion. The costume exhibit this season examines how fashion designers have been influenced by Catholic aesthetics. The theme went from religious influences in fashion to focus on Catholicism. This was adjusted when the curator decided that focusing on religious influences was too much for one show. The Catholic church not unhappy with the art collection and has donated pieces for the art show. The annual show at the museum dictates the theme and dress code for the evening.

The celebrities hit the red carpet with great creations of fashion, style, and makeup. Versace was popular fashion. Donatella Versace wore a design of her own that is sexy and gorgeous in a beautiful ornately embroidered coat and dress navy and gold boots. This was perfect for the evening. Her boots were fabulous. There were many celebrities wearing Versace at the Met Gala. This is appropriate because the fashion house being in Italy and often includes catholic religion in their fashion. The celebrities wearing Versace include:

  • Kim Kardashian in a full-length gold gown with a gold cross on the front.
  • Mingos wore matching print bold suits. They are very fitting for evening’s theme. (Best Dressed men)
  • Gigi Hadid in a gorgeous blue embellish wings with a high slit. (Best Dressed woman)
  • SZA in a soft pink heavenly gown with great embellished pink boots.
  • Mary J Blige in an elegant light mint green gold gown, thigh-high boots (it is an evening for boots) and L’ Dezen by Payal Shah jewels.
  • Zendaya wears a silver military Joan of Arc influenced gown, Jimmy Choo heels, and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
  • Katy Perry brings the wings the Met Gala theme with sexy gold thigh-high boots.

Rihanna brought some controversy with her dress like the Pope. She wore a gem-encrusted Margiela mini-dress and matching coat, and a giant mitre. Amal Clooney one of the best dressed of the night. She wore cigarette pants with a strapless foil top and a train that flowed from the waist. This is a modern take on the mother Mary.  The fashion continued with the theme throughout the evening.  The inspiration for the Met Gala includes Cardinals, Mother Mary, art, and elegant embellishments. The evening was full of crosses and other religious symbols. The evening was awe-inspiring.

A Woman’s World, The Beguiled ~ Cannes

A Woman’s World, The Beguiled ~ Cannes

The Beguiled Red Carpet Cannes Film Festival
The Beguiled Red Carpet Cannes Film Festival

The Beguiled is one of the most anticipated films at Cannes Film Festival. Director, Sofia Coppola, brings the woman’s point of view and how it was for these women during this time period. The original film was from the man’s point of view. This point of view brings a new dynamic to the melodramatic remake.

Film synopsis At a girls’ school in Virginia during the Civil War, where the young women are sheltered from the outside world, a wounded Union soldier is taken in. Soon, the house is taken over with sexual tension, rivalries, and an unexpected turn of events.

This film is a remake of (The Beguiled (1971).  Both films are based on the novel The Beguiled by Thomas Cullinan. The first film brings the male perspective of a wounded Union soldier. Coppola brings the story back with the perspective of the women in the boarding school.

The revisiting of this film creates its own dynamics. Coppola says, “I never tried to remake the film, go back and tell my story. I wanted to forget that and to imagine how I would make this film.” She brings the women’s stories and perspective to the forefront.

Coppola discusses the film being a feminist film, she states, “It is up to the audience to determine how they want to take it. I put my thoughts into film and you can determine how it affects you. I was making the film from the female point of view. The core of the story is the power struggle between the male and female.” The story brings this struggle to the center of the film.

Living in a boarding school atmosphere where they are all women who are functioning well, until the new dynamic, Farrell enters the school. Kidman states about Farrell’s character, “I think he comes in an ruins everything. We were fine. We only could not procreate. Good riddance to him.” The dynamic changes for each person in the film.

Kirsten Dunst, plays Edwina Dabney in the film, says “all these people pent-up together no matter male, female, or a mixture. There will always be something that comes out it is a survivalist technique. Colin just happens to be what all our aggression, energy, and emotions corseted up, lets say. They get unleashed because this new dynamic comes in.” This does bring a change for the girls attending the boarding school.

The Beguiled Nicole Kidman 4Chion Lifestyle

Nicole Kidman recalls Martha Farnsworth, her character in the film, “is very maternal. Kidman states, “She is there to protect these girls in a very treacherous difficult time. Her motivation is to protect them, to guide them, to bring them, so when the war ends they are capable.” Farrell’s character makes it difficult for the continued protection.

Colin Farrell, John McBurney character in the film, states “It has been a journeyman to get here. Many miles of roads and many corsets. It was an amazing experience shooting this film. Coppola sets a particular mood, one that is of comfort, of ease, trust, and an environment that allows you as an actor to explore and play. It was my favorite experience and shoot. Sophia is a creative beast of an engine with tenderness, elegance, and a gentility.”  Looking forward to this film? It will be in theaters June 20, 2017.

Just a few fun notes from the press conference Kidman and Coppola often swiped their hair from the left side of their faces at the same time. Kidman discusses working through mistakes, “I try to focus on the positive. Sometimes you fail and sometimes you succeed.  That is the journey. You just get back up. . . You fall over you brush off your knees and get back up. It is a really hard thing to do. You cry and you feel. It is not saying don’t feel, but experience it navigates and get move through it. . . I’ll learn from everything.”

This 70th year will continue to evolve film worldwide. Stay tuned here for coverage of events from fashion, red carpet, actresses/actors, and films.

Solidarity On The Red Carpet ~ Golden Globes

Solidarity On The Red Carpet ~ Golden Globes

75th Annual Golden Globes red carpet show a sign of solidarity with a void of color for many celebrities in attendance. Many choose to wear all black in a silent voice against sexual harassment and supporting “TIME’S UP,  a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere.”

This group addresses the inequality and injustice in workplaces for underrepresented groups reaching their full potential. The celebrities wore black as the key to their fashion and styling choices. Many adorned with an accessory pin from the organization.

The red carpet became a real black tie affair.  The black theme did not mean a void of personal style. Many celebrities choose textures, trims, makeup, and jewels to carry out their styling.  Jessica Biel wore a beautiful haute couture Dior gown with a half-moon over a tulle draping with a soft romantic pink slightly showing through.

The ceremony continued the theme with speeches including Oprah’s acceptance of the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.  She offers encouragement for the future by stating, ” it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘Me too’ again.” Oprah brought many to tears with her speech supporting the night’s voice against sexual harassment.

Chrissy Metz‘s stylist, Penny Lovell, continued the solidarity look for her with a velvet custom designed off the shoulder wrap clutched with a gorgeous crystal hand-beaded brooch.  Accessorizing with Stuart Weitzman shoes, a Jimmy Choo clutch, and jewels from Hueb and Le Vian. The look complete with the powerful pin supporting against sexual harassment.

A few choose to vary from the evening theme with choosing to wear color on the red carpet.

Barabara Meirer states, “A lot of women will wear black tonight to support the Time‘s Up movement. I think this is a great and extremely important initiative! Nevertheless, I decided to wear a colorful dress tonight,” she wrote. “If we want this to be the Golden Globes of the strong women who stand up for their rights, I think, it’s the wrong way not to wear any sexy clothes anymore or let people take away our joy of showing our personality through fashion.” Fashion made a statement this evening and for generations to come. Support was felt in fashion, speeches, and pins throughout the evening. See the full evening photos here.

The Meyerowitz Stories, Daddy Issues

The Meyerowitz Stories, Daddy Issues

Noah Baumbach director of The Meyerowitz Stories presents for the first time at Cannes Film Festival. This comedy-drama brings a star-studded cast: Dustin Hoffman, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Emma Thompson. Baumbach is a singular filmmaker, he is precise in his writing and an expert. The film feels personal and emotional bringing truthfulness.

Film synopsis: Estranged siblings gather in New York to celebrate their father’s work as an artist.

Netflix obtains this film post-production for distribution. This is the second film Netflix presents at Cannes 70th Anniversary film festival. They are very supportive of the film.

Baumbach created the film for the cinema and has all intention of showing in theaters. He states, “I made this movie independently with independent funding. I shot it on super 16. I made it with the expectation to be screened on the big screen. It is a singular experience that is not going away.” Hoffman did say that the film could be screened at his home cinema. The film received a standing ovation at the end of the world première.

The father and sons relationship is always interesting in the film, Baumbach says, “I have always been interested in the gap between who we think we are, who we want to be and how far that gap really is. Success, professional success, and fame and the arts is a way to explore this. What does success mean and mean to different people is something I wanted to explore in this film.”

The estranged family feels less successful in comparison to the other.  Thompson states, “All those characters except Grace operate from a position of shame. So many human beings feel that so much of the time. We all feel ashamed all of our culture is built around this shaming thing. I think that is why it is so powerful.”

Each character in the film meticulously embraces the story and present Baumbach vision.  Adam Sandler says, “I was attracted to the character and the attracted to the whole movie. I was as excited as ever to be in the movie. I loved it.” Emma Thomas states, “Unlike Adam, I am not from America or that kind of family. I did not have an idea what this is going to be like. I had no idea. It was quite a foreign country to me.” Ben Stiller says, “I was very fortunate to get the call. Then I heard Dustin Hoffman was auditioning for the role of father.” Dustin Hoffman actually passed on the role. He said, “I did not want to play the old man. I felt I was a better fit for the role of the brothers.” His son talked him into playing the role.

This story takes on the roles in families with the many dynamics creating the truthfulness in the film.

This 70th year will continue to evolve film worldwide. Stay tuned here for coverage of events from fashion, red carpet, actresses/actors, and films.

One family member expressed her deepest loss from the fire. She lost her son and nephew. She honors their memories this evening by wearing her son’s pants and nephew’s belt.  The pain and loss are real for these families each day. Their loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice for their community, home, and family.  The evening honors those men who lost their lives fighting this lightning-caused fire to save the homes, lives, and beauty in Yarnell Arizona. Those men were fathers, sons, nephews, and brothers. They had homes and hobbies, but one day took the call as a first responder for wildfires. This evening brings many family members to tell the story of sacrifice and loss.

Amanda Marsh, the wife to firefighter Eric Marsh, joined the cast and crew this evening. She has made her message strong and proud in honor of the husband she lost. She has taken her pain and turned it to helping others. She created the Eric Marsh Foundation for Wildland Firefighters. This foundation provides assistance with, “heartbreak at its deepest level, and we have the ability and resources to help others dealing with the same loss and trauma” (Eric Marsh Foundation Website). This year our country is experiencing a loss of over 2 million acres due to wildland fires.  This film brings forward the battle and struggles these families and firefighters face to protect our homes, families, and wildlands.

Only The Brave Phoenix Premiere 4Chion Lifestyle

Tonight the premiere brought Hollywood actors to the Phoenix red carpet. They came to honor these men and to bring awareness to the struggles living their live fighting fires. Josh Brolin, his character is Eric Marsh in the film, in a behind the scenes clip states, “there should be a moment when the audience is educated on how tough it is to be a wildland firefighter.” The firefighters live in the most rugged conditions for weeks. They carry 40-50 lbs packs with their water, meals ready to eat, sleeping gear, and shower infrequently.

Miles Teller, his character is Donut in the film, says, “These guys go all over the country for two weeks at a time. They go home for two days to return for two more weeks. They do this for six to eight months each year. They work their butts off.”  The sacrifice these firefighters and their families make to protect our livelihoods.

Joseph Kosinski, film’s director, wanted to bring the vision to this film “that you do not need to carry a gun to be a hero. What firefighters do. That it is a war a war against mother nature. It felt grounded and real,” he states behind the scenes. This film brings this story to the scene. Eric Marsh brought this municipal firehouse to a Type 1 Crew hotshots.

Filming was in Santa Fé New Mexico for most of the film. The Yarnell part filmed last. James Dale Badge stated this evening, “We filmed Yarnell last. At that moment we had to trust that it was in us as actors. This is our job.” The film’s song, Hold the Light, is by Dierks Bentley, who grew up in Phoenix.  The sacrifice made by many to protect our wildlands, communities, and livelihood presents in this film. This film opens in theaters October 20, 2017. Check your local listing for times and tickets.
