Spring Break Staycation ~ Phoenix Arizona

Spring Break Staycation ~ Phoenix Arizona

Spring Break Staycation time. As you manage work, schooling, and a new way of living a staycation can be a wonderful adventure. Arizona is home to great history, beauty, and top resorts in the world.

Taking a staycation with your children can be incorporated with their school work – history, geography, geology, and even math. Here is a great road trip for spring break or any weekend.

Spring Break Hotel

Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort Phoenix, AZ

A glorious resort in Phoenix nestle in the Tapatio Cliffs . This resort has comfort, COVID-19 protocols, and great entertainment. The comforts of home are here. A nice sitting room, and comfortable bedroom. The location is stunning for sunsets and sunrises. The several pools are accommodating for children and an adults only pool with a pool side bar.

Relaxing and enjoyment with spa, salon, and room service available. Take a moment to enjoy a desert and glass of wine on the patio or pool side. Experience the stunning outdoors with golfing, hiking, or the sun deck for evening sunrises. This location is prefect to venture and explore the great location around the state.

Spring Break Food

Staycations really need to have great food stops along the way.

Pappadeaux Phoenix, AZ
Staycation In A Pandemic travel 4Chion Lifestyle
Pappadeaux Dining

Southern food is comfort food. Pappadeaux is a generation to generation restaurant brings fresh seafood and Louisiana-style favorite to the plate. Attention to details and tradition brings the comfort food to your dinner plate. This is a great place to get family style for your picnic or party in your hotel room. Dinner this night is Shrimp Etouffee, green beans, fried crawfish with one of the 2.27 million baguettes they make each year. Curb side pick-up perfection, not one item missed. Dinner was delish.

Andreoli Italian Resturaunt 4Chion Lifestyle
Andreoli Scottsdale, AZ

This is a home take on traditional Italian restaurant is popular with local. They have had many features including Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. This quant location serves as an Italian grocer and restaurant. You can cook your own or enjoy a home cooked meal.

They make everything from scratch including their own prosciutto, desserts, and homemade breads. The food is like walking into a great Italian home on Sunday. The food is a purest approach. If you are looking to mix and match your pasta this is not the location. They portion are fitting for one person not family style.

We enjoyed the Filetto Di Sogliola alla Mugnaia (fresh seafood), Gnocchi alla Corsara, and spaghetti with meat sauce. Dessert a must, the pasta is not over filling or heavy. We enjoyed chocolate mouse, coconut cake, and almond chocolate bark. The food is fresh and organic. The hand crafted pasta and food is by chef Giovanni Scorzo. He states on the web profile, “EAT the BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD and SHUT UP.”

The atmosphere is a true antique decor replicating any Italian grandmother’s living room. The family affair is felt within the staff as well.

Eclectic Cafe Tucson AZ

Eclectic Cafe in Tucson is “Where quiche meets enchilada.” The concept is a fusion of a variety of cuisines. The meal today includes vegan gazpacho (great summer treat chilled with garden fresh vegetables, Sherry’s shrimp salad, and Chicken Quesadilla. Took home a loaf of their zucchini bread, fabulous toasted with eggs for breakfast.

Mammoth Steak House and Saloon Lost Dutchman Gold Mine

This location is inside the The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine has great views of Superstition Mountains, food, and atmosphere. You can sit on the patio, at the bar, or inside. There is always a musician performing and has the real feel of the old town saloon. Enjoy a shot and a beer at the bar or a great meal.

Sweet Country Charm Payson AZ

Sweet Country Charm Candy Shop

The smell of sweet permeates the parking lot. It is a quant cozy welcoming candy shop in Payson Arizona. This sweet shop is in the Swiss Village Shoppes. They have homemade fudge, gelato, locally roasted coffee, handmade organic chocolate truffles, popcorn bar, nostalgic candies, handmade gifts.

Spring Break Attractions

Staycation In A Pandemic travel 4Chion Lifestyle

Tucson Mission San Xavier del Bac

This mission is apart of the wonderful history in Tucson. The missions are a big part of the culture and religion in the Southwest.

Mission San Xavier del Bac, a historic Spanish Catholic mission, is 10 miles south of downtown. This mission on the Tohono O’odham Nation San Xavier Indian Reservation. This location began with Franciscan missionary Fr. Juan Bautista Velderrain beginning in 1783. This mission has been apart of the New Spain, Mexico, and the United States since construction began.

The mission presents shells as a symbol of pilgrimage. The Baroque architecture is traditional with marbling, faux doors, and other details. The mission represents the struggles that have been with the Southwest, living in harsh conditions, the changes in governments, fire, and earthquake.

Casa Grande Domes

This is fun spot to stop and see from your car. It is a no trespassing area that is very unsafe especially for young children. This location was the hopes and dreams of many that never came true. This location was for manufacturing of computers but was never completed. There is an eerie feeling here. You can hear the walls speak as if there was life there but really the life has been one of decay and destruction.

Spring Break Payson Arizona

Payson Arizona is about 89 miles from downtown Phoenix to Payson on highway 87. It is a great drive from the Sonoran Desert to the top of the Mongolian Rim. The change in climate, altitude (from 1100 to 5000 ft.), and from big city to small town. This town offers a real homie feel and great location for adventure. A great lake and park for picnics, photos, and more. The beauty is pristine with four seasons of recreational activities.

Spring Break Tonoto National Forest

This is a great day in the old west driving up Apache Trail, an old trade route. There is so much to see and experience here. There is the Elvis Church with some old scenery from old cowboy movies, and a small replica of in the area gold mining. The actual gold mining town The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine. This location has great fun, shoot outs, and a train ride to the mine. It is the actual town prior to the mine flooding and the town shut down.

The road winds up to Tortilla Flat a small place with a gift shop and restaurant. This location was established as they built the Roosevelt Damn. The location has great water fun from boating, swimming, and kayaking. It is a breathtaking ride but well worth the journey.

Wonderspace Scottsdale AZ

Great interactive art at Wonderspace in Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. The art here is interactive, bigger than life, and digit. You experience a new reality from the artist creations. The art changes the frame of art to an endless pallet. The children enjoyed the exhibit. My favorite is a tie from Myrkvidr and Shigeto: Hovering.
The art on exhibit at this time is:

This combines Mesplé use of ferrofluid and metal work

OUR TOP 100 ~ Jody Servon

This is a community-built playlist consisting of songs and memories about songs shared by participants

Created after McDonald noticed how environments that filled up his peripheral vision with light created a usually immersive mirrors.

A MIND SANG ~ Vier Nev

Short film on perception, rebirth, and transformation.

SHIGETO: HOVERING ~ Conor Grebel and 79Ancestors virtual reality

The virtual reality film inspired by how water came to earth.

A great place to visit and explore. There is so much more than just a desert in Phoenix, Arizona. What is your favorite location in the state of Arizona? Post your response here.

“I Care A Lot”~ Are You Afraid?

“I Care A Lot”~ Are You Afraid?

I Care A Lot film by Netflix’s new movie starring Rosamund Pike. Rosmund Pike’s character Marla Grayson is one you want to hate and fight for during the movie, She is never afraid even in moments when she should be terrified.

I Care A Lot: Rosamund Pike as “Martha”.

I Care A Lot Synopsis

Grayson has found a way to earn a living legally by being a guardianship for elderly. She is strong, confident, and has the trust of many making the decisions for these elderly clients. Her office wall is display of many who she has guardianships over. Her career she has developed that is morally questionable but legal. She convince one doctor to turn over her “golden ticket” guardianship.

Dianne Wiest playing Jennifer Peterson appears perfect on paper for guardianship. She is single, no family, and has money. Grayson gains guardianship over Peterson. She begins to sell her belongings. Little does she know Peterson is connected to the Russian mob boss Roman Lunyov, played by Peter Dinklage.

The story plot then splits in many directions from you loving Grayson and cheering her on as a boss lady, to hating Grayson, and the criminal aspect. Grayson believe in this country you have to be brave, stupid, ruthless, and focused. Playing fair and scared gets you no where.

Nasty people do terrible things in this wildly entertaining Netflix caper about guardianship fraud,” states, Jeannette Catsoulis from The NYTimes.

I Care A Lot Power Struggle

J Blakeson, director of the film, moves this film from boss lady to one woman who will do all that she can to be very rich. The character development is strong in the film. The film becomes lost in the three separate films all tied together with the theme of crime, passion, and power.

Blakeson directs the change from Grayson being all powerful over Peterson to being the underdog. The power Grayson presents with is one of a powerful caring business woman. The power shifts back and forth between Grayson and Lunyov. The end they join their powers together.

There are time the film feels similar to many powerful strong women films but you are questioning yourself on the morality at the ease she takes everything legally.

I Care A Lot Are You Afraid?

Lunyov asks Grayson, “I am going to kill you now . . . you’re not afraid of death? Grayson answers, “Do you remember how scary it was in 1807? Me either because I was not alive yet. It will feel the same way when I am dead. Not even nothing why be scared of that.”

Her ability to not be afraid in the end gives her the win of being back in power. Legally making money being guardians with a large corporation gaining the wealth she always wanted in life. The twists and turns leaving some unpredictability in the plot.

In the end she remains ruthless, powerful, and someone who cares (so it appears).

Rosamund Pike is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. The award season starts February 28, 2021 Golden Globe ceremony will air live coast to coast 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET on NBC.

Pearl Power at The Inauguration

Pearl Power at The Inauguration

Pearl power is seen at the inauguration. The United States comes together to show the power of democracy and fashion. Kamala Harris is the first Asian, African American woman as Vice-President. She joins the list of one but many will follow. The supporters for this day is the power of many women.

Inauguration Power In Pearls Fashion 4chion lifestyl

The fashion is a show of color, personality, and solidarity. Harris’ pearls are a homage to the sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha. Many women wore pearls in solidarity to Harris. The pearl is a show of great rarity and worth. These women are just that.

Harris’ Fashion

Harris is wearing Christopher John Rogers to the swearing-in ceremony. The fashion remains true to the simple minimal fashion Harris is often seen wearing. The purple represents unity and is in honor of Shirley Chisholm. She did not sport her traditional chucks for the day. She is wearing a pair of black pumps. The evening she is wearing Sergio Hudson. This black dress went from a ball gown to a cocktail dress. This was sleek and elegant. She is setting fashion trends.

The clear choice to use black designers for her fashion on this day demonstrates that black designers can be luxvsiourious and glamourous. Taking away the they are just street and urban designers. Hudson is honored by the fashion choice brings these designers to the front of design and style.

Women Honoring Harris Fashion

Jill Biden’s Fashion

Jill Biden’s evening gown designed by, Gabriela Hearst, designer known for unity. Hearst states on Instagram, “Unity is the main inspiration for the creation of the Ensemble. Unity makes strength and it is needed for the road ahead.”

This cashmere coat and gown covered in embroider flowers representing the states and territories of the United States. The quote, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn,” Benjamin Franklin embroider on the lining.

Biden’s inauguration fashion is:
  • Wing & Weft designed the patten leather gloves for the day, the gloves for the evening gown, and the memorial the day before inauguration for COVID-19. This is the last glove designer in the garment district
  • Jonathan Cohen designed the purple dress and coat for victims of Covid-19 memorial service
  • Alexandra O’Neill designed the blue tweed coat with velvet cuffs and the embellished dress with Swarovski crystals and pearls. This is signifying trust, confidence, and stability.
  • Jimmy Choo heels for the blue tweed coat.
Amanda Gorman’s Fashion

Amanda Gorman, poet laureate is wearing Prada. The ring was a gift f’s rom Oprah Winfrey. She had given a ring to Maya Angelou and wanted to continue the tradition. The ring is a bird cage with a bird in there. This reminds Gorman of Maya’s poetry. Winfrey all gifted a pair of gold hoop earrings by designer Nikos Koulis, his passion for jewelry is a sharp outlook and authentic passion.

Former First Ladies Fashion

Hudson designed Michelle Obama’s fabulous look. This is a monochromatic burgundy turtleneck sweater and wide-legged bootcut pants, with a structured coat. The leather gold belt is also from Hudson. Obama noted for her choice of black designers often and fashion that states I am here to play. Her gloves designed by  J.Crew gloves

Laura Bush a lady who is often seen wearing pearls, much like her mother-in-law Barbara Bush. Bush remained comfortable throughout the day with flats with bows. She is wearing a knee-length and classic cut dark gray dress.

Hillary Clinton fashion choice is color of unity and optimism designed by Ralph Lauren. She stayed true to her love of pant suits. Did Clinton influence some of Kamala’s fashion choices?

Bernie Joins Us on The Red Carpet
Surprise fashionista Bernie Sanders

Did you feel the “bern?” Bernie Sanders is the talk of social media over his gloves. A gift he received 5 years ago, no you can get yourself a pair they are all sold out. Jen Ellis made the recycled mittens in 2016. He did not sport the pearls but stole the fashion show.

The power of what fashion represented this day was well thought out and meaningful. The power of women is seen in the unity and strength of a pearl. What was your favorite fashion or moment of the day?

The Visit at Prescott Film Festival Romina Schwedler

The Visit at Prescott Film Festival Romina Schwedler

The Visit, at Prescott Film Festival, is Romina Schwedler, screenwriter and director, first film,  This short movie is a juxtaposition of life events.

The Visit Short Film

The Visit is a day in the time of a visit with a mother (June Squibb) and son (Sean Maher). The story takes a moment in time for the son and develops a sequence of events that changes lives. The son must face the consequences of the events.

Schwedler’s attention to details in the film completes the story. She states, “every little detail, in the lighting, the wardrobe design, and every odd thing matters.” The juxtaposition of the story develops well with the attention to details.

Schwedler develops the story from a conversation with her father about her aunt. Her aunt experiences loss of most family and friends. Coping with the deep grief and loss her aunt develops elaborate stories regarding those she lost. Her techniques in film development here allow the audience to experience the emotions in the story.

The casting for the short film was “serendipitous,” she says. She approaches June Squibb, Oscar-nominated actress, at an award dinner in Los Angeles with a flash drive of the script. Sean Maher, Ben in the short film, heard about the project and appreciates June Squibb’s work. His agent contacted Schwedle in regards to working on the project.  The casting provides a twist much like the film. Check local film festival events for screening.
