Music The Power In Storytelling ~ Sean Callery
Sean Callery joins us on the red carpet at the Emmy® Creative Arts Awards. He composed himself to two Emmy® nominations for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music and Outstanding Music Composition For A Series Original Dramatic Score. This is his fifteenth and sixteenth Emmy® nomination.
Callery started his musical playing the piano. As he got older his mother began taking him to movies. This is when he realized how powerful music was to the storyline. He said, “Take Jaws, for example, that two bar section eludes fear even by mentioning the name Jaws. The two bars immediately play through your mind. Music is the oldest language and universal. It provides communication of sound. Music is power and energy, almost intoxicating.”
Composing Minority Report after John Williams’ composition for the film was a little intimidating. They wanted a new score and story with the new version. The focus was on new energy for the music. It was an honor to work with such a great team on series.
Working with Marvel’s Jessica Jones was a wonderful opportunity. Marvel Comics is something Callery grew up with as a child. There were so many characters that interact and such richness in each story. Marvel brings a great place for everyone to feel inclusive.
Sean Callery receives his 4th Emmy® for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music for Marvel’s Jessica Jones.
