Cannes Film Festival 2023 ~ Set, Ready, Film

Cannes Film Festival presents the films in and out of competition for 2023. This festival season will feature directors whose talent is artistic influential film creations.

Cannes 2023

Cannes Film Festival this year Ruben Östlund, award winning Swedish director, is the jury president. Östlund was nominated in 2022 for an Academy Award for Triangle of Sadness. His films, The Square and Triangle of Sadness (film won five other nominations) won Palme D’Or.

The official poster honors Actress Catherine Deneuve. She is is standing on Pampelonne beach, near Saint-Tropez, for the shooting of La Chamade by Alain Cavalier, adapted from the novel by Françoise Sagan. The actress of Peau d’Âne is an embodiment of cinema, far from what is conventional or appropriate. Without compromise and always in tune with her convictions, even if it means going against the grain of the times.

    Screen Actor Guild Awards ~ Inclusion

    Screen Actor Guild Awards was a night of great laughs, talent, and entertainment. Everything Everywhere All At Once took the night with first male and female Asian Screen Actor Guild Award Film Winners.

    Screen Actor Guild Show

    Ke Huy Quan, Best Supporting Actor, and Michelle Yeoh, Best Actress, bring forward the changes from Asian actors being white wearing tape to pull their eyes back to the forefront of with the beautiful story about choosing kindness, especially when life is tough. It is wonderful to see the inclusion and acceptance for everyone. The film was awarded four SAG actor statues. Jamie Lee Curtis for Best Supporting Actor and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

    Screen Actor Guild Lifetime Recipient Sally Field continued to bring her brightness, energy, and strength to the moment. It was spectacular to see all the contributions, characters, and talent she brings to each of the roles.

    There were a few slips with Jessica Chastain falling as she walked up the stairs to receive her award. Jamie Lee Curtis referred to herself as nepo baby, and Jennifer Coolidge stated she had never been invited to the Screen Actor Guild Awards before. Michelle Yeah and Quinta Brunson drops the f worked in their historic moment.

    The evening is streamed on Netflix without commercials for the first time. There was no host for the evening. The show flowed well with no advertisements and the actors kept to the strict 45 seconds.

    Jamie Lee Curtis states, “I a perfect person to talk to,” referring to those just getting their credits, “Show up an hour before your call and stay an hour after it. Ask nothing but questions.”

    Sam Elliot says “I am a little overwhelmed still. I did not expect to be here.”

    Sally Field, “It means everything. It is from the actors. . . This is the group I most wanted to be respected by.”

    Michelle Yeoh, “To get here, everyone of you know the journey. The rollercoaster ride, the ups and downs, but we never give up. . . Fuck. . . This is to every girls that looks like me. . . Thank you for giving me a seat at the table.”

    Janet Yang speaking in her first Oscars® nominee luncheon since her election August 2, 2022. Yang states, “We learned from this that the Academy must be fully transparent and accountable in our actions, and particularly in times of crisis we must act swiftly, compassionately and decisively for ourselves and for our industry . . . You should and can expect no less from us going forward.”

    Yang comes with a background with dedication to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences®, television and film production. She has an Emmy® for Indictment: The McMartin Trial.

    Oscar Nominations Luncheon Menu

    The is a daytime formal attire. The Oscar Nominee luncheon is a two-course meal with dessert. There is a harvest salad and king oyster mushroom scallops, wild mushroom risotto, roasted Brussels sprouts, baby carrots and pea tendrils. For dessert the guests are served an opera cake, ganache and fresh berries.

    Un Certain Regard will feature 20 films this year, including 8 first films and 9 films by female directors, just as Maryland directed by Alice Winocour, Montparnasse Bienvenue directed by Léonor Serraille who won the Caméra d’or and whose new film is in competition, The Match Factory directed by Emin Alper, and Joyland (US-Pak)directed by Saim Sadiq is his first film and the first Pakistani feature in official selection.

    Return To Cannes Film Festival Jury

    Valeria Golino will be the President of the Jury of Un Certain Regard at the 75th Festival de Cannes. She is a director, actress, and producer from Italy.

    Golino states in the Cannes press release “It is all the more intense within a Jury, where we will feel, think and share together. In this world full of sound and fury, I am happy and honored to be here to help, perhaps, filmmakers to emerge.

    The remaining members are:

    • Debra Granik, from the United States, is the director and co-writer of Winter’s Bone, which premiered and won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2010 and was nominated for 4 Oscars.
    • Joanna Kulig, from Poland, she is a singer and actress. she starred in The Woman in the FifthIda. This received an Oscar for best foreign language film.
    • Benjamin Biolay, from France, is a singer-songwriter, producer, and actor. He has acted in approximately 30 films, including On a Magical Night by Christophe Honoré which was presented at Un Certain Regard in 2019.
    • Edgar Ramirez, from Venezuela, is an actor and producer. He stared in Undoing on HBO, which was their most-watched show of the year. In 2022, he is upcoming in Netflix’s Florida Man, a drama series for which he plays the titular role as well as Lionsgate’s Borderlands.

    The 94th Oscars® Awards evening presenters honored the films from the past that change our culture, perspective, and brought forward struggles in life. The most inspiring moment of the 94th Oscars® Awards evening is Minnelli and Gaga’s interactions.
