Woman Power ~ Loretta Swit

14918937_1227728120622204_5769357808523915996_o

Loretta Swit joins us on the red carpet at Metropolitan Fashion Week. She walks the red carpet with grace, beauty, and joy. She is wearing an elegant red gown that she designed.

Swit is best known for her Emmy® winning role Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on M*A*S*H. This role takes place during the Korean War. She is a strong woman in a medical army camp. She is the mistress of Major Frank Burns. Many actors on the show had a love interest in her character.

Houlihan provided a woman’s insight to working in a male-dominated arena, but great girl power. Swit speaks about her role as, “this character did this in the 50s as a woman. This television show’s time period was when most women were starting to define their role. Not only this, but the series took place in the 70s when women’s roles were still being redefined. She brought a reality that women are strong, influential, and powerful. I loved playing this powerful role.”

Swit is excited to see the role of women continue to be defined and change. She said, “Look at the election this year. Hillary Clinton has brought the first presidential nominated woman. She commands and brings a strong resume to the nomination.” Swit beamed as she discussed the role that women bring to the home, business, and world.

Swit’s most popular role is not her only acting role. Swit’s acting roles include Same Time, Next Year on Broadway, Any Wednesday, Mame, and 1000 performances of Shirley Valentine. She had a show, Those Incredible Animals, seen on the Discovery Channel, The Animal Planet and in 30 countries.

She was honored with The Sarah Siddons Award for her performance in Shirley Valentine. Swit honors are numerous from 2 Emmys, People Choice Awards, The Genie Award, The Silver Satellite Award, and 6 Golden Globe nominations to name a few. She is the Woman of the Year from the Animal Protection Institute and International Fund for Animal Welfare. Her love for animals found in her new book “Switheart.”

Swit works with National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. This foundation provides relief and strength in training rescued dog for first responders. The dogs are paired with a firefighter at no cost to the fire department. This training takes the dog from rescue to a contributing member of the community.

The fashion week provided exceptional fashion, honors, awareness for Autism, and an exceptional event for all attending. Swit states, “She is honored to be attending this event.” We wish Swit a belated 79th birthday. Swit continues to influence in film, art, fashion, philanthropy, and a powerful woman.

this video created by her father. He filmed her afternoon activities about 6 years ago. Here family provides exceptional care and love for her daily needs, but the needs will be for the rest of her life.

There is a lifetime need for many families. This support comes through contributions from donors, volunteers, events like this, and corporations. Autism Speaks in Southern California works with the community by providing kits, family services, and leading medical centers.

Jeannie Mai, television personality, introduces Steven Grossman. She states, “I will never forget New York Fashion Week FW 2013. This is the time when Steven got the news that his son has autism. The challenges for this family included finances, energy, lack of understanding from society, and understanding special needs. Steven posted this news on social media on July 20, 2013. He exposed one of the most challenging roles of a parent’s life. He did not want his family to feel isolated, unsupported or alone. He recognizes that if we all had a little more sympathy and understanding for families we can create a more harmonious future for our kids. A man who puts his wife and kids first.” Grossman provides awareness with conversation and continued support of Autism Speaks.

Metro Fashion Week Autism Speaks Warner Brothers

Grossman discusses the lessons his family learned from his diagnosis. He states, “first be kind to each other. 1 in 42 boys does not mean anything to you if your life isn’t profoundly affected. Lesson two I don’t really know what normal or traditional means anymore in our society. In my family, we’ve started living with greater awareness of all the things we take for granted. With my son, we’ve learned to appreciate simple milestones like his willingness to wear his winter coat without a fight. Lesson three I feel compelled to tell you I’m not even the real hero. Those people are the folks from this charity, the doctors, the ABA and OT therapists, like Jane, Nay, and Amanda that work over 40 hours a week with children like my son. As I told Matt Asner, when he asked me to accept this award, personally didn’t think I did enough yet to deserve it. We went back and forth a bit about it, but I finally agreed that I would earn it. I will graciously and humbly accept this award on your behalf. I will continue to earn it.”

He enjoyed the evening and told reporters about his dinosaurs. As the evening came to a close. He enjoyed the blue runway playing with his dinosaurs with his mother by his side.

The evening filled with exceptional fashion on the blue runway. Designers include Guess Kids, David Tupaz, Delia MacPhee, Sivalia Couture, and Ron Tomson. Many designers present designs in blue, the Autism awareness color. Hosts for the evening Molly Sims, and Kevin Frazier.

The ability to be kind and understanding will help those families, children, and many on the autism spectrum have acceptance and compassion.

Relationships Real and Technical ~ Robots

Relationships Real and Technical ~ Robots

Robots LJFFF Best Director 4Chion LIfestyle
Robots LJFFF Best Director Photo Credit LJIFFF

Robots, World Premiere at La Jolla Fashion Film Festival, gives us insight to their award-winning film. This film awarded Best Directors for Josh Brandåo and Nicolai Kornum. This film provides an insight into the blurred world of technology and human emotions that are fluid between humans and droids.

  • How does this film connect to fashion?

Robots” is an editorial style fashion film, which involves 6 primary designers, we invited them to take part in the project. The film uses fashion items creating the universe. This gives it a special aesthetic look, i.e. using close-ups of fashion items as doorways or buildings etc. We incorporate fashion with makeup and body painting for the characters’ look and use fashion accessories as props and plot points. This unique world creates the background for our story taking a critical look at our relationship with modern technology: smartphones and social media.

  •  How does location play into the subconscious side of the human affections?

It might not play a big part in life, locations seem to disappear around us when our eyes become distracted and affected by an object or subject. Using film language, however, there is an option to create places and surroundings to build the atmosphere and mood of the characters to convey their feelings. This develops a subconscious level to an audience, which opens up many possibilities.

Robots Crew La Jolla Fashion Film Festival Red Carpet 4Chion Lifestyle
Robots Crew La Jolla Fashion Film Festival Red Carpet Photo Credit Raymond L Forchion Jr.
  • What is the one thing you do each day to make it successful?

Drink coffee in the morning.

  • What is your background in film and direction?

We have together made several fashion films over the last 6 years that have won several awards at festivals. We develop, produce, and finish the projects together from our photographic studio based in London.

Josh Brandao has a Master’s Degree in Fashion Photography from London College of Fashion and a degree in Moving Image and Performance Design from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Nicolai Kornum worked for 8 years as a First Assistant Director in Feature Films, Commercials, and TV-Drama and trained at the European Film College in Directing and Editing.

  • When creating this film what was the advantage of being a short film?

Most of the fashion films we create are usually editorial fashion films showcasing several designers in the same way as a magazine editorial and are not an advertising for one specific brand. This means we have greater creative freedom but the budgets are lower, which makes short films ideal.

The short film format fits well for our stories and ideas, and is perfect for online distribution and showcasing at international festivals at this stage in our carriers.

  • This film takes on a message outside of the actual robot being the robot in the film. How was this juxtaposition developed?

We think it’s interesting how today we have become so attached to the great technology. We have the available in the palm of our hands that we seem more and more living inside the world of our smartphones and computers, perhaps neglecting what’s around us too. Of course, technology is important and has opened up a whole new world of possibilities and interactions.

In Robots, we tried to blur the lines between the humans and machines, playing with inverting the roles, both in the sense of making humans more like robots and giving actual robots human emotions.

  • What are the other locations is this film will be screening?

The La Jolla Fashion Film Festival in San Diego, California is Robots world premiere. From there we will be screening the film in the International Fashion Film Festival circuit. Our next stop is the Miami Fashion Film Festival.

This film uses fashion to create the sensory experience of reality and machines being difficult to differentiate between. This creates a conversation about this reality as a real possibility in the near future with the complex development of machines.

“That’s All Folks” The Talented Bob Bergen Voice of Porky Pig

theatre

Bob Bergen, the voice of Porky Pig, joins us on the red carpet at the Emmys® Creative Arts Awards with a little voice over of Porky Pig. His talent is vastly beyond Porky Pig. His voice overs include television and movies. His résumé includes commercials, Wall E, Toy Story, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars to name just a very few.

His dream to do the voice of Porky Pig started at the age of 5. He told his mother he wanted to be Porky Pig. When he was 14 he started by reaching out to Mel Blanc, the voice-over actor for Porky Pig, at the time. He took the advice provided by Mel Blanc and when the time was right he achieved his dream. This voice over actor performs the iconic role providing tears, laughter, and memories that will live on for generations to come.

Bob Bergen’s talents have benefited from the Television Academy for decades. He is a member of the Board of Governor for Television Academy Performers Peer Group. Bob Bergen, an active member since in 1994, provides service on the:

  • Daytime Committee
  • Executive Committee
  • Governors Ball Committee
  • Governors Award Committee (Chair)
  • Membership Committee
  • Co-host and announce of Daytime Creative Arts Emmys® Awards
  • Membership Committee

He states, “there are 107 events held with the Television Academy.” Each event takes the time to honor and celebrate each nominee, show, and talent.

Bob Bergen is excited to share that Lily Tomlin Television Academy Governor, is honored during the 23rd Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards show in January. She will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. He also had great accolades for Kathy Bates and her exception career.

Bob Bergen’s daily success is showing up and being present. This daily success is present in his life since his first phone call with Mel Blanc. He ended the interview with the classic Porky Pig, “That’s All Folks!”

Emmy's Creative Arts 2016 Red Carpet 4Chion Lifestyle
Emmys® Creative Arts 2016 Red Carpet

Kether Donohue joins us on the red carpet at the Emmys® Creative Arts Awards. She comes with a strong background in television, theater, and film. She is an actress, producer, director, and writer. Her performance in Grease Live as Jan provides comic relief.

Donohue embraced her career from an early age growing up in New York. She attended a performing arts high school and graduated from Fordham University with a concentration in film. This training prepared her for each role she has undertaken.

Taking on the iconic role Jan in Grease Live took some time to create the character into a new modern role while capturing Jan’s essence. Donohue states, “The directors provided an atmosphere for me to explore, make mistakes, and hone in on the character for this production.” This allows for Jan to come to life for a new generation.

Her career has spanned decades. She has worked with theater allowing for her to interact with the audience and crew during a performance. She moved on to voice-over work. This took some time to get used to being alone in a room during a performance. Each role has provided insight to her next performance.

Her beauty in a Vivienne Westwood corset cocktail dress and Prada shoes grace the runway, but her intellect and passion to each role she embraces were clearly demonstrated. She is in You’re the Worst on FX Networks.

Grease Live awarded 5 Emmys® for Outstanding Lighting Design Lighting Direction For A Variety Special, Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, video control for a limited series, movie, or special, Outstanding Special Class Program, Outstanding Directing A Variety Special, and Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Nonfiction Event Or Award Special.

She joined Vanessa Hudgens and Julianne Hough on the red carpet, her co-stars.

Dancing With Comedic Timing ~ Kathryn Burns

Dancing With Comedic Timing ~ Kathryn Burns

Kat Burns Kathryn Emmys Red Carpet 4Chion Marketing
Kathryn Burns Emmy’s Creative Arts 2016 Red Carpet

Kathryn Burns (Kat) joins us on the red carpet at the Emmys® Creative Arts Awards. She danced her way to an Emmys® for Outstanding Choreography in My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She is the first choreographer nominated working with a scripted series.

Joining her for the evening was her gorgeous mother and father. It is an exciting evening and red carpet for the family. Her family plays a large role in her dance career. She began dancing from her older sister’s influence.

Burns dance training includes tap, ballet, contemporary, but her passion is hip-hop. After college, she moved to Hollywood. She was her dream was a backup dancer but released she was too tall and white.

Kathryn turned her attention to comedy. This was not as successful as she envisioned. This left her feeling a little in between dance and comedy. One day someone asked her about dancing when she was doing comedy. She said, “I am a trained dancer.” This question changed her world.

This opens doors to use her comedic training and dance to choreographing for the scripted comedy. She continues to work at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, presenting live comedy. Improv, sketch, and stand-up.  She has enjoyed being here for over 10 years.

The challenges with choreography with a written script are working with people who may not have formal training, working within the set, characters, script, and camera angles, while meeting comedic timing. Kathryn said, “It is such an honor and humbling experience being recognized by my peers in dance.”

Crazy Ex-Girlfriendawarded one Emmys® Creative Arts for Outstanding Choreography 2016.
