70th Emmys nomination announce the very best in television from on the screen to behind the scenes, on NBC this morning. Samira Wiley (congrats on your nomination) and Ryan Eggold announce the nominees.
Hayma Washington, chairman and chief executive officer of the Television Academy, said, “It a stage for those to seek to dazzle and entertain, it is a platform for those who choose to educate and provoke, and refuge for those of us who just want to escape from a long tiring day.” He further states, “It is a milestone that reminds us of our storied past.”

Lord Burchen – Modern Contemporary Men’s Summer Fashion
Lord Burchen brings modern contemporary summer fashion to Style Fashion Week. New York Fashion Week known for the top designers of ready wear. Many runway shows bring forward the upcoming designers willing to push forward a new style and design. Lord Burchen brings a menswear collection that pushes the limits of contemporary summer fashion.
B Michael Creative Director Lord Burchen
B Michael, the creative designer for Lord Burchen, started his designing career as the millinery designer for Dynasty. He began creating fashion in 1999 with a couture collection with the help of PR Guru Eleanor Lambert. This collection for summer demonstrates Michael’s ability to work within classics and bring forward a strong modern contemporary men’s collection.
Lord Burchen Summer Collection
The Lord Burchen collection is a black and white with a shift from traditional shorts, jogger pants, and leather skinny pants to a modern step. The shorts come with belts at the cuffs, length below the knee, and the knees cut out. The jogger pants have great oversized pockets. Bringing a great athleisure wear for men. The jackets have added dimension with the buttons creating various shapes and textures. When unbuttoning the jacket there are new shapes and textures created.
The folds, cuts, and shapes in the collection take you back to many millinery designs. The full-length pants create folds all the way down the legs adding a nice contemporary pleating to menswear. The best contemporary look for the runway is a white cotton top with the center front cut out. This cut out continues with the runway collection of modernization and shapes. The back of the shirt falls nicely down the back of the pants, with the sleeves cut in two with the bottom half bunched up to the elbows. The added texture is from the black buttons placed on the black trim. The shirt is with a pair of a tuxedo short with straps connected to the mid-calf boots.

The Walking Man ~ D’ Jesus Trujillo
D’ Jesus Trujillo graces the world with his own personal style on the red carpet and catwalk. He states, “It is all in the confidence.” Trujillo brings his Latin flair, confidence, and style to his walk anywhere.
- “How did life’s journey bring you to television, runway training, and production?”
- “I have always had a fascination with Style and Fashion. When I was in my teens, I moved to Mexico City to become an actor. My dream was to move to the United States and break into Hollywood. While studying at the Andreas Soler Academy I taught modeling and choreography to support my education. I realized that I had a passion for the industry and my desire to pursue this path as a career developed.”
- “After moving to California, I found it was a struggle just to survive. My resolve to succeed intensified not just for me, but to help others like me who have a passion for design, modeling and style. I wanted to prove to myself and show others that success can be achieved with focus, determination, and patience. One night while watching Univision, I saw a feature on a Latina designer who made it big in the U.S. Her story inspired me to reach for the impossible and to never be ashamed of who I am or where I came from.”
- “As a business owner in the fashion and entertainment arena what one piece of insight would you share?”
- “Never give up your dreams and never compromise who you are. Your uniqueness is one of your biggest assets.”
- “What are the changes to fashion shows and runways you have seen in the last few years?”
- “Acceptance of and a trend toward more ‘real’ models. I am seeing more models who don’t fit the traditional ideals. Models who are shorter, plus sized, older and those who push traditional gender boundaries are becoming more common. I believe this is a healthy trend for the Industry and for the public.”
- “When looking for talent what are the top three items do you look for?”
- “Personality. Charisma and personality is key to being able to sell a garment.”
- “Looks. Uniqueness or the ‘X-Factor‘ needs to match the image of the designer and the garments that will be on the runway.”
- Confident. All-inclusive walk and presence that will transform each garment into “fashion”
- “How does social media play in your business and training?”
- “Social Media is essentially primary to getting my image and my message out. It is invaluable for networking and for keeping up with fashion trends both in style and design. You cannot be successful today without a strong social media presence.”
- “Recently you had some cameos on Strut, produced by Whoopi Goldberg, what does this show bring to the transgender community and the fashion industry?”
- “Strut is groundbreaking in showing that the Transgendered Community consists of people with normal lives who have the courage to be who they are. It provides courage and inspiration to an unimaginably huge population of people who struggle to find themselves and fully develop to their full potential regardless of the challenges they face in our culture. It also shows the status quo in the industry that it’s who you are, not what you are supposed to be that holds star potential.”
- “What is the one thing you do each morning to start off your day?”
- “Each day I wake up, put my feet on the floor and thank God for the gift of another day in this life. Then I go to social media to review what’s come in overnight and to communicate with those who reach out to me. I review the latest fashion news about my friends and colleagues and begin to formulate a motivational message that I can send out to those who follow me.”
- “When was a time when an event went from stress to best?”
- Every event presents different challenges, from models who do not show up to missing accessories or shoes. No show ever goes off without unexpected events that must be dealt with. The key is to expect the unexpected and to improvise. The public doesn’t know the planned script so the final product is what’s important.
- “Working fashion shows what is a typical day start to finish?”
- “The day cannot start without my coffee! LOL Typically I begin by reviewing the lineup for the show, from garments to accessories to make sure everything is correct according to the models who are going to wear them.”
- “Next I have a meeting with the Team (keeping in mind that the show is based on teamwork). Review any last minute changes. Communication is important.”
- Check on hair and makeup to ensure everyone knows their assignment and they have what they need to do their work.”
- “Assign an assistant for each model.”
- “Rehearse each model so they know their timing and choreography on the runway.”
- “Coach individual models as needed”
- “Review final preparations and make sure the team is ready for the show.”
- “Lights, Cameras, action.”
- “Working with some of the top fashion magazines, fashion weeks, and photographers what does working behind scenes bring to the final production?”
- “As with any production, what you see on stage is only the tip of the iceberg. There is so much talent, creativity, and intensity that takes place behind the scenes it’s really unbelievable. Working in a creative and cutting-edge industry such as fashion requires quick and innovative thinking, coordination between designers, models, producers, hair and makeup artists, right down to those who take care of the coffee. Every person, no matter how seemingly insignificant to the final product, is essential to the success of that production. I am always amazed at the dedication of everyone involved and how it brings the final show together as a success”
- “Image is an important addition with the rise in selfies what is one focus you think could improve a person’s image?”
- “Confidence! Confidence with a bit of sassiness really provides the charisma that attracts others. Wear it, Own it, Sell it!”
- “You present a great cohesive style. How did you discover your personal style?”
- “My style comes from a desire to be sexy, sassy, and fun to work with. My inspiration comes from my native culture in Mexico. I seek ways to use and promote indigenous fashion in the mainstream. Being bold, confident and sometimes outrageous is what inspires me to create and to be who I am.”
Trujillo works this at each event, project, and runway he attends. We always look to see the shoes that tie his personality, style, and confidence together. Many days on Facebook you will find words of wisdom with a picture of one sexy shoe. He practices what he teaches each day.
Trujillo states, “I always encourage everyone to practice, practice, practice and to be comfortable with who you are. Have patience and remember, it’s not enough to dream. You have to take action for those dreams to become reality.” He draws his influence from Coco Chanel.
Chanel demonstrates Trujillo’s statement about never giving up. Chanel’s life story is her determination, energy, and ambition coming from nothing to big global success! His favorite quote from Chanel is, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, in our ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Trujillo lives this each day.

Model of The Year ~ Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid awarded the British Fashion Awards model of the year. Her year is full of great fashion, hosting, runways, and record-setting.
Hadid’s Instagram 26.9 million followers, record-setting account, enjoy insights into her photo shoots, runways, baby photo, and daily living as the top international model. This account brings the life of a model to those who want to know about a model’s life.
Hadid says that during the fashion week it is important for her to get sleep. Fashion weeks do not give much time for resting. She loves participating in fashion week. Getting through these long days and nights is coffee and friends. She enjoys the opportunity to work with her best friend Kendall Jenner and sister, Bella Hadid.
The first time for the Victoria’s Secret Paris runway sisters, Bella and Gigi Hadid, graced the runway with exceptional beauty and style. Hadid was so excited to share the full busy day with her sister.
The beauty of the night included Max FactorMax Factor, Red Carpet Manicure, Beachwaver Co., Victoria’s Secret Paris Fragrance, Victoria’s Secret Velvet Matte Cream Lip Stains, and Victoria’s SecretVictoria’s Secret Body Care Collection. The staff backstage included, “36 makeup artists, 31 hair stylists (brandishing over 200 Beachwaver hair tools!) and 11 manicurists transformed 51 models into Angels for the runway of the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Join Makeup artist Tom Pecheux and hair stylist Anthony Turner backstage as they share their vision and a glimpse behind the scenes.” Hadid had a wonderful time.
Hadid not only walked Victoria’s Secret runway this year, she walked for Tommy Hilfiger’s water runway, Marc Jacobs, Balmain show, Mugler show, and Anna Suis. She did have a slip on the runway in Paris, but recaptured her balance and continued on with her strong walk. She demonstrated her strength as a fan tried to grab her in Milan, Italy. She proceeded to take matters into her own hands. Hadid co-hosted the American Music Awards (AMA) with Jay Pharoah.
Hadid 2016 has been a year of many firsts and honors. What does 2017 hold for this beauty? We can hardly wait to find out what runways, covers, and other opportunities for this 21-year-old.

Chicago Food, Fun, and Relaxation ~ Road Trip
Chicago is one big city that sits in the Midwest of the USA. This is a dream comes true with a visit to this city. Driving in from Champaign, with my sisters Tina and Cherie, we see this massive modern American city, but as you explore you realize that the city has great neighborhoods that swallow the big city vastness. Each neighborhood feels like you are in your own hometown.
Chicago Neighborhoods
Lincoln Park
This was an excellent choice for dinner(see below). It is no the north side in Chicago. This area has some great restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. This neighborhood has the Lincoln Park Zoo (America’s oldest zoo) and the Chicago History Museum. The streets this evening had many out for dinner and to watch the Cubbies play ball.
River City North
Sending my sister off in the morning was sad. She is a lot of fun to travel with and drove 1,300 of 2,400 miles of the cross-country journey. Tina and I take the subway into River City North. We enjoy a glass of white wine and watch families enjoy the riverfront. We also enjoy Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria.
The neighborhood looks or feels nothing like it started as an industrial and warehouse district. This neighborhood is modern as the many buildings tower over the river. This neighborhood is known for art. It has the largest concentration of galleries outside of Manhattan. We enjoy exploring the many wonderful statues, theatre area, and the most restaurants in Chicago.
Old Town
Walking to Old Town was a fun adventure to see the other areas of the town. Old Town is filled with old Victorian buildings, churches, great pubs, coffee shops, and history. The streets are lined with beautiful trees. This area was first settled by Germans. Around 1846 the immigrants established St. Joesph’s Parish. The history here is rich from buildings that survived the 1871 Chicago fire, to former speakeasies and ornate beautiful churches. We enjoyed a nice lunch at an Irish Pub.
The Loop
This is where you will find the “Bean” the name for the statue is Cloud Gate. The sculpture is by Indian-born British artist Sir Anish Kapoor. This was so gorgeous at the night. It is located in Millennium Park in The Loop neighborhood. The statue is a 110-ton elliptical sculpture of a seamless series of polished stainless steel plates and a 12-foot-high arch. The inspiration for the statue is liquid mercury. It is an incredible piece of art. Uber (see the discount code below) provided a great get around from one neighborhood to the next during the evening.
Wrigleyville
Closing out the first night in Wrigleyville. A great night to see the stadium and experience one of the great bars in the area. It is a great spot day or night. It is a great place for nightlife. We enjoyed Sluggers, a great sports bar. My sisters enjoyed the batting cages and I took in a little music with the dueling pianos. This neighborhood offers some great Chicago experiences

Wicker Park
Wicker Park is a wonderful neighborhood. It really takes to a small town feeling. It is close to the subway, has great shopping, and good bars. This neighborhood has many lush gardens with great events in the parks from movies, exercises, farmers markets, and concerts. This area is great for Wicker Park is known for local hipster culture, the art community, nightlife, and food scene. It was a great place to stay in an Air BNB (see discount offer below).
Old Navy Pier
This is a fun adventurous place to visit. Ellie (granddaughter) loves exploring the pier. The great boats, fun, and ice cream. We enjoy walking the pier. The Fifth Third Family Pavillion was so much fun. This is a beautiful place for a wedding, family fun, and weekly events.
The Navy Pier is on Lake Michigan and is 102 years old. We enjoyed an Uber (see discount code below) ride. They have this well set up for pick up and drop offs. Much easier than trying to park. The Old Navy Pier is the vitality of Chicago. Ellie enjoyed the Original Rainbow Cone even though she said it was not good she finishes it. The group enjoys a drink at the Billy Goat Tavern.
Chicago Food
Chicago sits in the Midwest has a history of all American food. This history is changing to one of sophistication and elegance. The dining experience is one set for the various neighborhoods in Chicago. The traditional American and deep dish pizza is found in each area, but the elegance is found with 25 Michelin-starred restaurants. Chicago is known for their yearly Taste of Chicago a food and entertainment weekend usually held the second week of July. There is a covering deep dish pizza this is a bucket list trip with deep dish pizza on the list.
Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
This was a fantastic place to take a crowd for lunch. There was a little bit of a wait but well worth the wait. They do allow you to order ahead of time. The pizza was enjoyed by the entire party. They had great selections with gluten-free and vegetarian options. The gluten-free crust was one of the best. They have a real family feeling to the pizzeria.
Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria is a local favorite. The first restaurant opened by Lou, an Italian, opened a pizzeria in a Jewish neighborhood on an Irish holiday in 1971. They are always busy at all 51 locations in the Chicago area. Each pizza is hand created to each patron’s desire.
Pequod Pizza Chicago
Pequod Pizza, 25 years in business, is a popular place in Lincoln Park. We arrive with the dreams of deep crust pizza and watch the Cubs play ball. Arriving we realize that the wait is down the street. Heading into the small hostess station they tell us, “there is an hour for a table about another hour for service from seating.” We walk around the block and decide to find a place with appetizers to wait out the hour seating time. We find a great place called Distilled Chicago.
New York City mayor’s press secretary Eric Phillips has put in his vote on Twitter for the best pizza “Chicago pizza is the best pizza in America, and it’s not even close.” The tweet has a photo of Chicago-style deep dish pizza from Pequod’s. We return for our pizza as our buzzer for the table goes off.
We take the pizza back to the Air BNB for snacking and dinner on Saturday evening. It is a fabulous bucket list experience. Normally a thin crust pizza lover this was a true experience. The crust is caramelized and not as heavy as expected. The cheese strings as you take a bite making it a true cheese pizza. The sauce is the best to date. It is loud and excitable as the patrons are enjoying the final innings of the Cubs game.
Distilled Chicago
Distilled Chicago was a fantastic find just down the street from Pequod Pizza in West Lincoln Park. We sit at the bar. The decor is black and gold with an early 19th century feel. The Cub’s are playing on the TV. It is neighborhood experience as locals enter to enjoy the local menu with a modern twist on bar favorites. We enjoy a glass of wine and a beer. It is best known for being a whiskey bar with our 100 varieties. These are paired with the menu items.
The food is fabulous. We order the mac ‘n’ cheese bits, sliders with fries, and Italian beef egg rolls. The Italian beef rolls turn out to be a delightful surprise with the Au Jus Sauce. This fusion of Asian and Italian together well and our the favorite of the night. The mac ‘n’ cheese bits are crispy and tasty. The dipping sauce is house ranch. There is a good textual experience. The fries are crispy and the bacon jam brings the classic slider to a unique experience the arugula brings a fresh peppery flavor, caramelized onions, and the top quality Angus beef takes a bar classic to elegance. This became dinner. It is a great place to enjoy a ball game, the community, and an American classic menu with an elevation.
Scone City
Scone City located in Wicker Park is wonderful for a morning after bar hopping or late night in Chicago. Jessica and Tim Canning along with chef Laurie McNamara took on the endeavor in a specialized sweet and savory scone menu. This place was perfect stop as my sister Cherie is heading to the airport to return to her family in Idaho. It was so wonderful sharing this experience with here. Seeing places and enjoying the cross-country journey. I truly miss her every day. She enjoyed a sweet blueberry w/ lemon glaze scone she says, “It was delicious!! Sweet. Soft. Perfection!!! Soooo tasty.” They have savory scones as well. I enjoyed a hot Vanilla Bean Latte with the house-made vanilla syrup. It is a perfect start to a day of exploring Chicago.
Bangers and Lace
Bangers and Lace, a local bar in Wicker Park, has a rustic lodge atmosphere and is a great place for a good drink and great company. The patrons are friendly. The bartender for the evening was an instant win with a Big Lebowski shirt. The best feature is the is the classic beer tap handles. The restaurant’s name is Bangers for the British term for sausage and Lace for Brussels Lace, the intricate veil of beer foam that clings to the glass side. This was a great evening spot near the Air BNB for cocktails and a glass of wine. They have a menu of sausages, English beans, vegetarian option, and Belgian fries.
The atmosphere is friendly, fun, and did get crowded as the night went on. It is a great place for sports, conversation, and good drinks. What a fun experience.
The last morning of the road trip in the Midwest is brunch at Kanela, the Greek name for Cinnamon. This restaurant place is Wicker Park neighborhood on a street with many older shops. It is a great place, voted best in Chicago by USA Today, for a Sunday morning brunch. The coffee tops and wonderful after an evening at Bangers and Lace.
Brunch includes California Benedict and Fried Egg Sandwich this was an exceptional meal. The hollandaise sauce perfection with a nice touch of heat, the poach egg picture perfect. The sandwich was fabulous with the chili aioli brings the flavors together. The seasoned potatoes nicely cooked not too soft or undercooked. It was a nice brunch with my sister. We do agree that this is a great place for brunch.
This was a fantastic weekend with my sisters. This was one of the few trips we have taken just the three of us. It was hard saying goodbye to Cherie, but we have some fantastic memories and stories. Stay tuned as the road trip continues.

From Milan Runways to Tempe Moxy
The Moxy Hotel welcomed the community to experience this new boutique hotel. Marriott working with 27/7 Hotels has created a hotel with a modern-day experience. The evening filled with an Italian theme event from food to fashion.
The lobby filled with a warm home-style setting. Check-in is actually the bar. Take a moment to look up at the ceiling as you wait for the drink you ordered. This ceiling came from a fence found in Kansas City. Upon receiving your drink you can find many locations to enjoy your drink.
The lobby filled with comfortable areas to enjoy a quiet moment, watch the guest check in on Instagram on a large screen, enjoy the workspace, write on the giant chalkboard, enjoy Pac-Man or other video games, or play a board game or two. Each area filled with great motivational thoughts and art. The hotel set for the traveler to enjoy a more independent experience.
The rooms are keyless and their self-service food areas. The furnishing is a collaboration with Marriott and Ikea. The furnishing is simple and comfortable. There is a nice sitting area, bed, work desk, and television. This design is a more contemporary feel and set to work with the Millennial traveler. The evening provided a great opportunity to experience the elevator that is set as a photo booth for selfies, community, music, art, and fashion.
The evening feature VH1 Save the Music. An organization that provides funding for continued music education and opportunities for musicians. Chris G Band performed poolside while guest enjoyed the Italian themed food. The community enjoyed the amenities and visiting with each other during the evening.
The evening ended with a great fashion show put together by Phoenix Fashion Week. Frank James, stylist team lead, said the styling for the show was a 70 and 80s inspired with a tribute honor to Prince. Frank has worked with Phoenix Fashion Week for four years. He made the adjustment to fashion after putting together fashion shows in high school and college. He has produced, trained models, and taught the catwalk. The models were well casted and came with various backgrounds.
Ali Aungst, a model with Ford Robert Black Agency, started with Phoenix Fashion Week’s boot camp last year. She has walked in last years October show. Her one piece of advice is to be true to your personal style. Her favorite colors to wear are black and grey. She is looking forward to the upcoming year as a model.
Caylee Cottrell, an independent model, she loves to do on stage. She began dancing when two and made a natural progression. She finds the runway a place to present great art and bring emotion to the runway experience. Her runway experience has been LA Fashion Week, headshots, and more. She has always felt comfortable on stage performing and modeling is a great addition.
Justin Ford, an independent model, is taking on a reinvention. He started with Phoenix Fashion Week. He has found the organization to be support and a step into the industry. He says, “the industry has provided such great energy and positive reinforcement. His one great piece of advice is men should take the time to present their best self, even if this means concealing a few marks on your face.
The runway presented a great collection of retro 70s and 80s clothing with exceptional models. Phoenix Fashion Week provides a way for models, stylists, and designers to understand and learn the fashion business.

Beauty Travel Tips and Guides ~ Beauty Hacks
Beauty travel tips are important to keep up a healthy skin and look. Traveling across the county, you began to see changes in my beauty routine and skin care.
Beauty Care Importance
The road trip began in Arizona a dry desert climate, through the Rocky Mountains a high elevation and snow, to the Midwest where the humidity is high, and New York the big city with pollution and urban heat island. The road trip and flight to New York all played a confusing nightmare on my face, hands, and feet, but most of all my lips.
The time on the road took away from the value of continued daily beauty care. The long hours sitting in a car with air condition or heat added to a dryness and dehydration. The value of drinking water on the road trip makes a difference. It provided a way to curb the food cravings (fast food or high-fat (foods) especially keeping the hunger down. This provides much need moisture for your skin and body.
Beauty Lip Care
The first thing that is the biggest change my lips they were dry and peeling. Using the toothbrush helped some to keep the dry skin, but after getting lipstick on for the day reapplying Burt’s Bees Flavor Crystals 100% Natural Lip Balm.
